What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The HLMS Associate is an active member of the Humanitarian Leadership and Management School team, working to meet its objectives. They, under the supervision of the head of Unit, mainly carries out different analyses for all the HLMS Modules’ evaluations and participants’ assignments and other data analysis and research related to the HLMS work. The HLMS Associate actively supports and assists the HLMS team in Geneva in data analysis reports.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Analyse the main issues/challenges treated in the WBL assignments of the HLMS participants;
  • Analyse the skills and behaviours (developed through the HLMS Module 2) transferred by the participants to their working environments;
  • Build a qualitative and quantitative report out of the above analysis and issue reports that support the overall HLMS feedback into the organisation;
  • Support the team in searching and analysis content when needed;
  • Updating and redesigning the overview and other pedagogical design;
  • Assist in the online Alumni activity building (assist in organizing webinars and learning groups).

Scope & Impact

  1. Analyse the WBL assignments for the HLMS Modules and identify the main behaviours and concepts experimented, transferred by the participants;
  2. Overall comparison of the different analysis different data sources in HR and previous HLMS analysis reports;
  3. Compile and analyse the evaluations of the HLMS courses;
  4. An overall comparison report highlighting the main links between the outcomes of all HLMS relevant analysis data and identify main trends and data to useful to use for the impact evaluation;
  5. Support in updating design documents of the modules and other relevant pedagogical documents of the HLMS modules;
  6. Support in coordinating the Master classes and other alumni community related activities when needed.

Interacts with colleagues in the global HLMS and LnD team.

Certifications / Education required

Masters or Bachelor degree in Adult education, leadership development or relevant social science.

Professional Experience required

  • Maximum of one year's professional experience after graduation (relating to the post) or two years if traineeships included;
  • Research methodologies;
  • Knowledge of and/or have worked on a social behavior analysis;
  • Computer applications for data collection and analysis;
  • Ability to present information to others to convey information;
  • Responsible and well organized;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Ability to work well within a team;
  • Open-minded, willing to learn about the ICRC and LnD work;
  • Good command of oral and written English (French is an asset).
