What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • You’ll work with the Social Media Manager, Social Media Officers and AV producers in our country offices to create, edit, repurpose and deliver a wide variety of channel and audience-centric content, designed to engage different target audiences.
  • You’ll be our lead TikTok’er, making sure we are on point with everything we do and finding new ways to tell the story of who ICRC is, what we do, and amplify the experiences and stories of the communities we seek to serve.
  • You’ll ensure a diverse, participatory and inclusive approach to how we talk about and represent affected people in social media, and all the communications we produce follow our ethical communications guidelines.
  • You’ll be in charge of keeping up to date with all the different channel and content trends and turn ideas into original content for ICRC’s owned channels – particularly for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
  • You’ll identify relevant, emerging and brand-appropriate creators/influencers on social platforms to collaborate on organic and paid opportunities and campaigns.
  • You’ll create and maintain creator/influencer relationships to build a diverse, inclusive, and creative community in support of our platforms.
  • You’ll use social listening as part of your daily job to explore opportunities to be part of relevant conversations across social media, and jump in where relevant, in coordination with key colleagues.
  • You’ll work with the Social Media Officers to implement a service design approach to how ICRC proactively and reactively engages with different online communities, including through messaging apps, and ensure we respond to all messages and comments that we can.
  • You’ll track channel performance indicators through weekly and monthly reporting, and provide insights and recommendations on how to improve our visual storytelling.
  • You’ll follow digital trends, platform updates and changes in the social media landscape, and make design recommendations on how we ensure we’re continuously evolving our approach while remaining on-trend.
  • You’ll work with the Social Media Officers and Social Media Manager to create and send the Social Media Internal Newsletter to highlight successes, learnings and what to look out for
