Job Description

Your responsibilities

The CMS "Tier-0 Operations" team is seeking a highly motivated and skilled DevOps Engineer to join our team at CERN. In this role, you will be pivotal in operating, maintaining, and enhancing the Tier-0 processing infrastructure of the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experiment.

The CMS experiment at CERN uses a large and distributed computing infrastructure to record, process, and analyse data at petabyte scales. The Tier-0 infrastructure manages the repacking of freshly recorded data from the detector into a format suitable for permanent storage at multiple locations. It also handles the initial reconstruction of that data, converting it into a format suitable for physics analysis.

As a Tier-0 Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of this critical infrastructure. You will monitor workflows, maintain system health, and resolve issues in collaboration with site admins and system developers. This role requires flexibility and a proactive approach to handle the dynamic conditions of the LHC and the CMS detector.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
