Expected duration The Programme assistant will be recruited for an initial period of six (6) months with a possibility of extension after a satisfactory evaluation of the initial period.

Duties and Responsibilities The project's objective is to strengthen the evidence base of international migration in Africa to inform policies and programmes to support the implementation of migration-related targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Migration (OC1). The project also seeks to facilitate mutual recognition of skills and qualifications of African workers migrating within or outside the continent and enhance their abilities to access better paying jobs in support member States to implement and monitor the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (OC2), a cooperative framework that reflects the commitment of the member States to strengthen global governance of migration. Furthermore, they constitute a recognition of the global feature of migration and global governance as critical factors in the management of migratory flows. Within the delegated authority of the Director of the Sub-regional Office of North Africa and the direct supervision of the program manager, the Programme Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: •Provides full range of the project management and implementation assistance at all phases of the project cycle, as requested by the manager; •Researches, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information/data on the project highlighting noteworthy issues/trends for consideration by the manager. •Works with the manager and other implementing services and agencies to draft budget and forecast based on the programme of work; •Works with the manager in arranging the financing modalities; obtains requisite clearances; ensures establishment of proper monitoring systems through scheduled reporting, review meetings and missions. •Ensures compliance with guidelines and project objectives; identifies problems/issues, seek clarification from concerned departments and agencies, assess replies, and prepares a summary for the manager with suggestions for further action. •Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of implementation activities and participates in project evaluation; monitor implementation at all stages to ensure financial commitments are proceeding according to established plans, •Liaises with the implementing units and agencies to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference against programme/project objectives, obtains necessary clearances, processes and followsup on administrative actions. •Provides secretariat services to the technical and steering committees, ad hoc tasks forces, drafts and circulates agenda notes to members/participants; assembles background documentation; drafts minutes of the meeting; monitors follow-up actions, etc. •Establishes internal databases; sets up, files, stores and manages data and information relevant to the scope of the project activities. •Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. A University Degree is desirable. Master's Degree is an advantage Experience: Minimum of four years of experience is required. Experience in Administration or programme or project administration and management is desirable. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in one UN working language is required. Fluency in the other UN working language is desirable. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
