The WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa (RBN) is based in Nairobi and provides strategic direction, technical guidance, resource mobilization, and management support to WFP operations and activities in ten countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda.

JOB PURPOSE

Digital transformation is a key priority at WFP, ensuring that the organization is efficient and effective in serving hungry people. Based in the Nairobi Regional Bureau, the intern will support the Business Engagement team to help to shape demand and support the roll out of digital tools across the Nairobi Regional Bureau and country offices. The candidate will work with teams to support understanding of foundational use of technology, areas for improvement and support digital training initatives. To succeed in this role you should be interested in improving business processes through digital tools but above all enjoy building connections and relationships with WFP teams.

We are looking to fill the position of a Technology Intern in the Technology Unit.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in the university and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies; currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master's degree) from a recognized university; or have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme within the last 6 months, preferably in Economics, International Relations, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related fields.
  • Certification in ITIL or equivalent is an asset.
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s degree) from a recognized university, undertaking the programmes mentioned above, and have attended classes in the past 12 months,
  • Fluent in English (both oral and written) is a must; knowledge of a second UN language, preferably French, would be an asset.
  • Training and/or experience utilizing computers including word processing, spreadsheet, presentations and Data Visualization.
  • High levels of literacy and a keen interest in digital transformation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Support the review of foundational use of technology
  • Review entries in WFP’s corporate repository and support updating where necessary
  • Learn about WFP’s corporate tools to support advisory services to Country Offices
  • Support digital learning activities across the region
  • Support fundraising and advocacy review for digital activities

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP depending on the duty station of assignment (i.e. Nairobi).
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • The internship duration is 8 months, full-time.
