Contract

This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

UNICEF works towards promoting and protecting the rights of children in Jordan and aims to ensure that every child has access to education, health care, and protection from violence and exploitation. UNICEF Jordan is responsible for providing humanitarian assistance to vulnerable children affected by crises such as conflicts, displacement, and natural disasters. Additionally, UNICEF Jordan works closely with the government, civil society, and other partners to promote policies and programmes that benefit children and their families.

The assigned UN Youth Volunteer will join the ICT team and provide technical support to UNICEF programmes/ Operations. Including Quality Assurance and Control, Software development, ICT administration and some daily helpdesk support

National UN Youth Volunteers in Jordan are entitled to:

  • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) at the amount of JOD 854.8.

Under the direct supervision of Head of ICT or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will contribute to all/any IT tasks and related activities as below: • Digital Projects, QA & Quality Control for Junior Staff:  Assist senior team members in collaborating with partners to understand project needs.  Support in setting up new processes and systems.  Learn and help review project specifics under guidance.  Support in the preparation and implementation of test plans.  Document and report software issues.  Support with communicating updates to stakeholders.  Assist in code reviews to learn about coding guidelines.  Support the team in handling technical issues.  Help monitor software performance under guidance.

• Software Development:  Assist in software and database development using tools such as C#, JavaScript, PHP, React, Node.js, and databases like SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB.  Support in integrating specified software features.  Learn and follow coding norms.  Assist in reviewing codes and learn from third-party vendor evaluations.

• Provide minimum helpdesk support: provide technical support to users, Track, escalate, and follow up on support requests as needed. • Other similar duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes, software development and database using any of the following using any of the following (C#, JavaScript, PHP, React, Node js, Mysql, and MongoDB), conducting code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices, identifying and resolving software’s technical issues and familiarity with project coordination and management processes.  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills  Providing assistance to users on IT products and services, and use of applications and diagnostic tools is required.  Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.  Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; and to work with tight deadlines.

Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship). As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
