You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in environmental policy, climate change, sustainable development, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in international environmental policy, multilateral processes, or research on biodiversity, climate, or land degradation.
  • Proven experience in coordinating technical dialogues, multi-stakeholder engagement, and drafting high-level policy or knowledge products.
  • Strong communication, writing, and facilitation skills, with fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of Spanish or French is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the Rio Conventions and Nature-based Solutions is highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Climate Change Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. UNEP, in partnership with BMUKN (Germany) / and Colombia, is implementing a project titled "Dialogue Series on Synergistic Action for Nature and Climate under the Rio Conventions." The project aims to strengthen coherence in implementation and action across the Rio Conventions (UNFCCC, CBD, UNCCD) by promoting integrated approaches for planning, financing, and monitoring national commitments, with a focus on Nature-based Solutions (NbS). The project includes a series of webinars and the development of a UNEP-led White Paper for COP30. Under the supervision of the Chief, Adaptation and Resilience Branch, the contractor will carry out the following tasks: A. Technical Content and Research • Lead and coordinate the review and synthesis of case studies and country examples relevant to synergistic implementation across NDCs, NBSAPs, NAPs, and LDN targets. • Draft thematic background notes to inform the expert consultations and webinars, drawing on UNEP assessments, literature, and stakeholder input. • Liaise with and coordinate the inputs and contributions of different partners, in particular partner countries and entities operating in this space. B. Expert Engagement and Webinar Preparation • Identify and liaise with relevant stakeholders, speakers, and contributors including government representatives, Rio convention secretariats, NGOs, IPLCs, researchers, and donors. • Develop speaker briefs, webinar outlines, and technical guiding questions for moderators and participants. • Coordinate logistics and speaker participation in consultation with the UNEP team and partners. C. Delivery and reporting • Coordinate with moderators and panelists on the delivery of the webinars • Provide conceptual background and prompts • Collate key points for reporting purposes • Prepare (i) a brief report for each webinar; (ii) an overall report for the process; (iii) a white paper for COP 30.
