The hospital Care and Management unit in the Department of UHC- Health Systems takes the responsibility of providing technical support to improve the hospital sector in the region, guided by the regional framework for the hospital sector transformation. The overarching goal is to strengthen the role of hospitals in integrated, people-centered health systems capable of responding to population health needs in routine and emergency situations. This UNV assignment is part of the WHO/EMRO initiative for strengthening the hospital sector in the Eastern Mediterranean Region in moving towards Universal Health Coverage and strengthening health security through integrated people-centered health services. It is in line with the WHO EMRO Vision 2023.

  • Providing technical support to countries in the development of hospital sector strategies, as part of the national health strategy, in the context of the regional framework for action;
  • Support countries to strengthen hospital's resilience;
  • Supporting countries to strengthen national Emergency, critical, and operative care systems through evidence-supported cross-departmental collaboration;
  • Generating evidence and contributing to developing guides/tools related to the different components of hospital care, planning, and management
  • Contribute to the programs for building managerial capacities of hospital managers and creating a platform for exchanging experiences and community of practice in the region.

in public health, health (hospital) management, health economics, health policy, and epidemiology; - a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree; • professional work experience at the national and/or international level in the above-mentioned areas (public health, health (hospital) management, health economics, health policy, and epidemiology, or other relevant programmes; experience with hospital care, planning, and management is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; • Good skills in conducting scoping reviews and qualitative analysis and synthesis are desired • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in providing technical support to EMR countries in line with advancing UHC., volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
