OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME The WHO Asia-Pacific Centre for Environment and Health in the Western Pacific Region (the Centre) based in Seoul, Republic of Korea, was established with a mission to function as a "Centre for technical and scientific excellence" in contributing to the development of healthier and safer environments and strengthened community resilience to climate and environmental change for health and health equity for all people of the WHO Western Pacific Region. Therefore, the Centre’s objectives are to: * Strengthen the scientific information and evidence for policy making on existing and emerging climate and environmental determinants of health. * Assist Member States in developing and implementing policies to protect and promote health and well-being. * Support Member States in developing and strengthening technical capacities and programmes in climate change, environment and health.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the general supervision and guidance of the Head of Centre, the incumbent is responsible for the following functions: 1. Stock-take and establish a database for relevant policies, legislations, technical guidance and governance structure for environment, climate change and health actions in Member States across the Region. 2. Support in identification of key environment, climate change and health policy issues by analysing the policy settings and governance structures in the Member States across the Region. 3. Support the relevant technical teams in identifying the baseline and maintain track of policies related to environment, climate change and health to enable the prioritization of support for actions in the Member States across the Region. 4. Assist in the definition, design, and production of templates for the Centre's knowledge products on environment, climate change and health. 5. Any other duties assigned by the Centre’s Head of Centre.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in health science, public health, social sciences or a related field. Desirable: Training in public health planning, health policy or health programmes management.

Experience

Essential: At least two years of relevant experience in health policy analysis and programme management. Desirable: Experience of working in developing countries, knowledge of WHO policy and programmes and of the UN and its specialized agencies.

Skills

a. Ability to conduct research, classify, analyze and sift large amounts of information in a short time in order to report on what is relevant, necessary and pertinent. b. Ability to think strategically and help the Organization position itself in the most effective manner. c. Working knowledge of essential WHO systems, procedures, policies and structure and willingness to learn and adopt these quickly. d. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with, and positively relate to, people at all levels and from all backgrounds and orientations. e. Ability to work independently and to take initiative quickly. f. Ability to maintain the standard of conduct of an international civil servant and to work harmoniously as a member of an international team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

Essential: Written and spoken fluency in English is essential. Desirable: Working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 50,377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2754 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
