OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Country Liaison Office (CLO) for Vanuatu provides support for the Ministry of Health in line with the Country Cooperation Strategy and the Vanuatu National Sustainable Development Programme. In particular the CLO provides assistance with health system strengthening, communicable and noncommunicable diseases.

The CLO for Vanuatu, located in Port Vila, operates under the umbrella of the WHO Country Office in the South Pacific and the Regional Office for the Western Pacific, acts as a catalyst and advocates for action at all levels, from local to global, on health issues of public concern. The CLO works together with a broad spectrum of partners from all sectors of society, WHO is involved in a host of closely related public health activities such as research, evaluation, awareness raising and resource mobilization.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the guidance of the Medical Officer (NCD) and the CLO for Vanuatu, the incumbent is expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Incumbent’s responsibility with respect to the implementation of the WHO Global Action Plan on NCDs with a particular focus on the implementation of NCD PEN and tobacco control given the high rates of tobacco use in Vanuatu and the significant burden of premature mortality from NCDs
  2. Support a strengthening of national actions in Vanuatu on tobacco control and NCD management in Primary Health Care (PEN).
  3. Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in health related field from a recognized university. Desirable: Medical degree. Postgraduate qualification in public health or health promotion.

Experience

Essential: At least one year working experience in NCDs and/or public health Desirable: Experience in WHO Package of Essential NCD interventions (WHO PEN).

Skills

  • Skills in effective writing and presentations.
  • Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at VUV 3,969,305 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
