To achieve the control of communicable and noncommunicable diseases throughout the Western Pacific Region by targeting the reduction of morbidity and mortality of such conditions and diseases. The division supports integrated people-centred care approaches by strengthening primary health care services for prevention, diagnosis, care and treatment of target diseases and conditions along the life-course, while ensuring to reach the unreached and achieving universal health coverage.
Vaccine- Preventable Diseases and Immunization
The Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and Immunization (VDI) unit works with Member States and partners in making the Region free from vaccine-preventable morbidity, mortality and disability by accelerating, achieving and sustaining control and elimination of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) in the Western Pacific. Focus areas of the programme are strengthening and expanding immunization systems and programmes; strategically managing intelligence on VPDs, vaccines and immunization with surveillance systems and laboratory networks; and preparing for and responding to public health emergencies related to VPDs and immunization programmes.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Measles and Rubella Regional focal point and Coordinator (VDI), and overall guidance of the Director, Programmes for Disease Control (DDC), and in close cooperation with WHO headquarters, WHO country offices, involved partners and stakeholders, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Coordinate engagement of all MOSRP partners and related communications
- Coordinate MOSRP and associated meetings (Invitations, agendas, minutes, actions)
- Coordinate deployment of experts to priority countries
- Convene, liaise and align WHO departments’ contributions to the MOSRP
- Maintain an MOSRP information repository
- Support budgeting and financial reporting
- Lead the implementation of the MOSRP M&E framework and develop performance updates, including year-end progress report and donor reports
- Perform other duties as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: University degree in health science, public health, epidemiology or related field from a recognized university. Desirable: Postgraduate studies or training in epidemiology or public health.
Experience
Essential: Minimum of five years’ work experience in vaccine and/or immunization and/or VPD control and prevention including national level and/or exposure at international level; experience in working for national public health programmes; experience in writing or developing information products and reports.
Desirable: Experience of managing national immunization programme(s); relevant work experience in WHO, other UN agencies, relevant nongovernmental organizations, especially immunization programme management in developing countries.
Skills
1. Technical expertise in public health epidemiology, disease control and immunization.
2. Sound knowledge in the VPD, VPD surveillance especially measles-rubella surveillance, routine immunization programme and data management.
3. Ability to work harmoniously, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
4. Proficiency in standard MS office software applications and presentation skills.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,692 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2518 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
