OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Global TB Programme (GTB) leads and guides the global effort to end the TB epidemic through universal access to people-centred prevention and care, multisectoral action and innovation. GTB specifically: provides global leadership to end TB through strategy development, political and multisectoral engagement, strengthening review and accountability, advocacy, and partnerships, including with civil society; shapes the TB research and innovation agenda and stimulates the generation, translation and dissemination of knowledge; develops policy options, norms and standards for TB prevention and care and facilitates their implementation; provides specialized technical support for Member States and partners, working with WHO regional and country offices to catalyse change and build sustainable capacity; and monitors, evaluates and reports on the status of the TB epidemic and progress in financing and implementation of the End TB Strategy at global, regional and country levels.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Responsible Officer, the Technical Officer will: 1. Support the work on enhancing strategic leadership - notably preparations towards the 2023 UN High Level Meeting on TB, and linked events/dialogue with partners. 2. Promote End TB Strategy implementation across countries and partners through the roll out of the End TB Essentials(s). 3. Support the rollout of WHO's multisectoral accountability framework, and build partnerships across sectors including the private sector through PPM approaches. 4. Contribute to the development of regional and thematic networks including the BRICS TB Research Network to enhance collaboration, knowledge sharing, capacity building. 5. Support the management of the WHO interactive web platform- End TB Forum - which is used to build networks on key TB related areas of work, and to promote the work of the Global TB Programme 6. Perform other duties as needed and requested by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A first level university degree in Public Health or a health-related topic. Desirable:

Experience

Essential: At least 2 years' experience working in a public health context. Demonstrated experience at the international level. Desirable: Experience in Tuberculosis. National and/or international experience working with international partners and funding agencies. Experience in developing countries.

Skills

Knowledge of the global health situation regarding Tuberculosis. An understanding of the relevant TB high-burden country country's needs, priorities and policies, in the context of the End TB strategy. Ability to identify technical issues, formulate opinions, make conclusions and recommendations. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written form.

Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of French.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 48,805 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3404 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
