OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To contribute to COVID-19 surveillance system strengthening and COVID-19 response in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore while acting as the International Health Regulations (IHR) focal person at the WHO Country Office in Malaysia.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The incumbent will provide technical support to Member States in COVID-19 surveillance system strengthening and response activities while acting as IHR focal person for WHO in Malaysia. Specific roles to be undertaken within this position are to:

  1. Contribute to multisource surveillance analysis system development at national and subnational levels including monitoring all-cause mortality;
  2. Contribute to the incident management team for outbreaks, particularly for COVID-19 and the multisectorial national response plan development, act as an IHR focal person;
  3. Assist in strengthening SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance systems;
  4. Provide support to the regional COVID-19 response through active participation on the Incident Management Support Team (IMST), including presentations, document review and other relevant activities;
  5. Prepare and submit technical and progress reports on COVID-19 activities at country and regional levels in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, headquarters and development partners; and
  6. Perform other duties as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in health sciences, social sciences or related field. Desirable: Postgraduate degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health sciences or its equivalent.

Experience

Essential: Minimum of two years of national experience in disease surveillance and/or control of acute public health events. Desirable: Experience in disease surveillance such as COVID-19 is an asset. Relevant international studies and experience at international level are an asset.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at MYR 122,690 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
