This is a UNV International Expert contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Expert contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 35 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Programme Area Manager, CPI or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Technical Officer will:

  • Perform mapping of cross border country needs, inside EMRO and globally;
  • Catalogue the success of Polio networks for COVID surveillance;
  • Facilitate and organize joint discussion amongst relevant technical stakeholders in interested countries;
  • Perform risk assessments and assessments of PoE capacities in conjunction with national authorities to map areas of concern and opportunities for collaboration;
  • Assist in the creation of joint MoUs and SoPs for joint surveillance and response;
  • Document the process and lessons learned in fostering cross border collaboration amongst countries.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

- Master degree in biological science, public health, or related domain.

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Master degree in biological science, public health, or related domain, Essential
  • Training in one or more of the following fields: health surveillance, public health, emergency preparedness, travel and health, hygiene and sanitation at points of entry (ports, airports, ground crossings), ship sanitation inspection, food safety and vector control, highly desired, Essential
  • At least fifteen years of experience of work in International Health Regulations (2005), international travel and transport/ points of entry public health issues, Essential
  • Experience working with WHO, Desired
  • Demonstrated international experience, in particular working at country-level, highly desired, Essential
  • Demonstrated capacity to work within different cultures, Essential
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in complex situations involving technical, cultural and political elements, Essential
  • Demonstrated understanding of the IHR (2005), Desired
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent knowledge of English, Essential
  • Excellent knowledge of Arabic, Desired
  • Excellent knowledge of French, Desired

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Fluent
