OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The WHO Western Pacific Region (WPR) is made up of 37 countries and areas. Serving the diversity of people and health situations requires a solid understanding of the evolving and dynamic social, cultural, economic, epidemiologic and demographic patterns and trends and the development levels of countries and areas in the Region.

The Division of Programme Management (DPM) provides overall direction and coordination of regional technical cooperation through programme development and operations, country support and editorial services with countries and areas in the Western Pacific Region.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Working under the day-to-day guidance and support by the Compliance and Risk Register Officer (CRM) and Coordinator, Healthy Ageing (AGE), overall supervision/guidance of Director, Programme Management (DPM), and overall guidance and direction of the Regional Director, the incumbent will support coordination across relevant programmes and/or units as well as with Member States and government bodies and partners to improve timely delivery and implementation of objectives under the "For the Future".

(1)To work closely with DPM, CRM, AGE and effectively coordinate the quantitative and qualitative researches across the Organization as well as with relevant Member States and government bodies and partners, particularly on the above list of projects;

(2)To provide technical support to Member States' core staff, based on hypothesis-driven approach;

(3)To draft a report or presentation with appropriate databases, analyses, interviews, either through field participation or collection and analysis of available data; and

(4)To provide other support as directed by the Regional Director and DPM.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in the field of natural and social sciences or related field from a recognized university. Desirable: Advanced university degree (master's level or higher) or Doctor's degree in a related field.

Experience

Essential: At least one year work experience in international health at national or international level. Previous experience in managing research, quantitative and qualitative analysis on international and national issues. Desirable: Previous experience in working at the World Health Organization, applying hypothesis-driven approach.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 38,172 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1533 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
