This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

The UNV position will be taking place in the office of Director, Programme Management to support research on certain public health topics, analyse information, prepare briefing documents and to collate and consolidate technical documents as required and in coordination with technical departments and other colleagues.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Dr Rana Hajjeh or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Specialist Volunteer will:

• Document strategic and operational meetings and consultations, develop reports and consolidate and maintain relevant documents; • Support research on the public health topics to facilitate the development of strategic documents and research; • Analyze information on best practices in Public Health and health systems and support in documenting success stories and lessons learned; • Prepare briefing documents on health programmes and strategies and assist with the organization of meetings with directors and programmes when requested; • Collate and consolidate technical documents, presentations, analysis and report on programmatic information; • Review technical documents, conduct analysis and disseminate programmatic information responding to needs and gaps and document WHO's role on a number of Health topics; • Develop tools and mechanisms for joint delivery of support to programmes, and guide them in establishing mechanisms to achieve coherence of technical assistance at Regional and Country level; • Consolidate efforts on WHO's engagement with health partnerships ensuring focus on programme management support; • Coordinate the development of policy, guidelines and tools to support WHO's engagement at the regional office and with other UN Partners; • Liaise closely with the DPMO technical officer for the execution of above mentioned tasks; • Assist DPMO Technical Officer in day-to-day related operations and tasks.

(up to 10 years) public health or other relevant programmes; experience with emergency is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization. and; • Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge: Epidemiology, infectious diseases, and broad public health knowledge; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in public health and humanitarian volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
