OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of the Health Systems Governance, Policy unit (HGS) within the Health Systems Governance and Financing (HGF) department is to support countries in improving the way they build and govern their health systems and develop national health planning processes, reform their institutions, engage with the private sector, empower citizens and improve accountability, adapting policy dialogue to a rapidly changing environment witha view of scaling up health outcomes for the poor. This includes in practice strategic planning (development, implementation and monitoring of robust National Health Policies, Strategies and Plans), institutional reforms, private sector engagement, laws and regulations, support to decentralization, voice and accountability.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Supporting the day-to-day operation of the HGS private sector work program Producing original research materials about private sector engagement for incorporation into relevant WHO global public health goods. Settingup, managing, coordinating and overseeing the implementation and evaluation of projects with WHO partners working on private sector engagement.Preparing,facilitating and following up on assessments, workshops, consultations,meetings, support for technical networks and side-events; andUndertaking any other duties as requested by the HGS unit head.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A first university degree in global health, health policy, social sciences or international relations. Desirable: Post graduate degree in public health, health policy, global health or other field relevant to the position.

Experience

Essential: At least two years' experience working on health policy. At least one years' experience working on health policy issues related to the private sector. Demonstrated experience in project management and implementation, promoting collaborative partnerships and donor reporting. Desirable: Work experience with UN Agencies and international developmentpartners. Experience working on health system strengthening and healthgovernance

Skills

Ability to research, identify, analyze and synthesize literature related to health system governance and aid effectiveness. Analytical and writing skills to prepare a variety of documents and briefing materials with the ability to integrate, synthesize and communicate complex concepts and ideas in the area of health systems governance. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 49,254 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2931 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
