Duties and Responsibilities RATIONALE

With the global average temperature already reaching 1.1 degree C, the world has gone into emergency mode in dealing with the climate crisis. In doing so, countries also need to take risk-informed planning, decision-making and actions to the next level.

In line with its strengthened commitment in scaling up climate actions, this year, UNDRR will continue its engagement and contribution to the international climate change policy landscape, especially in the Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement, the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) and the Santiago Network on Loss and Damage. This will ensure the strategic placement of the disaster risk reduction community and UNDRR’s value addition in these processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direct supervision of Programme Management Officer and overall guidance of the Head of the Bonn Office, the consultant will: 1. Conduct in-depth research/review and analysis of issues and trends related to climate change, and present information from diverse sources 2. Provide technical assistance in developing background and substantive documents to inform UNDRR’s contributions to the Global Stocktake and the Global Goal on Adaptation; 3. Support implementation of comprehensive climate and disaster risk management, e.g., draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. 4. Support consultations and workshops and assist in developing the action plan the organization will use to manage integrated disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation planning.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Minimum bachelor's degree in science or social sciences in fields relevant to climate change adaptation is required. Experience: - At least 3 years of experience in climate change adaptation or disaster risk reduction is required. - Experience in conducting research and developing substantive documents is desirable Language: Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
