OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The programme envisions a region where all health-related policies, decisions on healthcare development and implementation, and innovations are informed by best available evidence from verifiable knowledge, research and reliable information. The programme's mission is to strengthen the capacity of Member States to improve availability, quality and use of evidence from reliable information, research and other sources of knowledge, and to enhance effective innovations toward Universal Health Coverage and health related Sustainable Development Goals.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Collect, compile and disseminate data of regional core health indicators.

  1. Review, verify and examine data sets for comprehensiveness, accuracy, clarity and validity; liaise with government officials in data collection and verification.

3. Maintain the Regional health mapping database, including inputting and correcting data, determining formats, appraising current developments, updating sources and ensuring data integrity.

4. Enhance, maintain and validate links of spatial database of the Regional Health Statistics Database.

5. Act as a technical resource person in advising users of the health mapping software to access, utilize, integrate and present health maps for reporting, decision-making, planning and presentation.

6. Assist in assessment of user training needs and conduct relevant training in core areas of geographic information system applications.

7. Under the guidance of the systems' developer, test the health mapping applications on stand alone, networked and web-based environments.

8. Prepare and perform quality control on digital maps from different sources using GIS international standards to ensure the integrity of these standards.

9. Produce geographic analysis of existing health indicators (e.g. rates, ratios, prevalence) in relation to specific diseases and populations to produce specific country maps. Assist in preparation of the regional health digital atlas.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Completion of secondary education supplemented by training in Geographic Information Systems and MS SQL.

Experience

Essential: At least 5 years of extensive and progressive experience in maintenance, support and operation of Geographic Information System databases. Experience in Open Data Connectivity and SQL.

Knowledge of Windows Operating System. Considerable and practical experience in large-scale GIS projects covering analysis of needs, design and implementation of GIS tools and resources.

Desirable: Relevant WHO / UN experience.

Skills

- Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems for serves and desktop applications.

- Very good knowledge and principles of geographic information systems.

- Knowledge of software packages such as ArcGIS (all modules), Q GIS and other related software.

- Experience in the use of electronic reporting, database and communication tools.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at EGP 235,531 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
