OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The WHO Academy is a priority of the WHO transformation agenda and will deliver advanced digital and classroom training to WHO staff and health stakeholders in the world. The first online courses prototypes are scheduled to be launched in 2022 and the Academy will be a globally accessible school for the future which combines the latest technologies in digital and remote learning with advancements in adult learning science to offer innovative, personalized and multilingual training that meets priority needs.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  1. Coordinate, design, develop and establish the Academy's simulation learning strategic approach in alignment with Academy's standards and quality management framework.
  2. Work collaboratively with the Learning, Quality and Innovation Department to develop, establish, coordinate, implement and evaluate simulation-based learning programmes, which encompasses essential clinical skills, high fidelity simulation, haptic skills training, human factors, communication skills and other component, in accordance with best practices in simulation learning and in alignment with learning outcomes.
  3. Oversee and ensure capacity building of key internal and external stakeholders on the principles of simulation, simulation learning methodologies, techniques and other activities as appropriate; develop faculty training programmes to build competencies on simulation learning and assessment methodologies, technologies, tools and equipment.
  4. Promote and support the use of simulation to facilitate and ensure programme delivery; advise on simulation methodology, technology, and best practice and develop the use of alternative or enhanced methods of training.
  5. Maintain currency in simulation education through the review of relevant journals, abstracts, and scientific literature in existing and emerging simulation technologies, including underlying educational principles.
  6. Co-ordinate the delivery of simulation programmes and manage the simulation centre in Lyon, - including the simulation centre in Saint-Priest - through collaboration with team members and external stakeholders, to develop and maintain appropriate materials and protocols to a high standard.
  7. Oversee and conduct routine evaluations and analysis to ensure that simulation standards are consistent and coherent across the teams and audit the effectiveness of the training provision by examining the data derived from training and competency reports.
  8. Establish strong communication links with key experts, governance and educational leads to recognize and establish an agreed framework of training that is demand led and evidence based.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential:

  • Advanced level university degree (Master's level or above) in simulation, adult learning, health sciences or closely related field relevant to the functions of the position.

Desirable:

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
  • PhD in one of the above mentioned areas.

Experience

Essential:

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in education and health care including demonstrated experience in the development of accredited learning programmes.
  • Established record of publications on educational or behavioral research.
  • Demonstrated experience at the international level.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience working with accredited academic institutions, related to medical and healthcare simulation-based education and training programmes developed, including high-fidelity human patient simulators or simulations.
  • Experience working within the UN- Healthcare management or leadership role.

Skills

  • Strong skills in the simulation-based education and training, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety, and implementation of innovative simulation-based education and training programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of best practice in simulation-based education and research, leveraging various simulation modalities (standardized patient, manikin-based simulation, and virtual/web-based simulation).
  • Established record of scholarship with a specific emphasis on educational or behavioral research related to medical and healthcare simulation.
  • Ability to work/interact with diverse populations, showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences and diversity.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 90,664 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3203 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
