This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under overall guidance of the CO Organizational Development Committee and direct supervision of Human Resource Associate/Talent Development Manager, or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV [Talent Development Associate ;

  • Support the Talent Development Unit and Talent Development Committee for Kenya
  • Spearhead the development of a yearly Whole Office Learning Plan, outlining talent management
  • Follow up and support Mandatory courses learning by all staff and provide status report on the same
  • Draft an annual report summarizing accomplished development activities and utilization of learning budget
  • Promote, administer and support enrollment in professional certification programmes and staff development programmes
  • Function as primary liaison between UNDP in Kenya and UNDP’s global Talent Development Unit
  • Encourage collaborative peer learning, coaching and mentoring
  • Engage staff in learning and development as faculty, participants and experts
  • Encourage staff to share their knowledge to grow the team capability
  • Promote on-the-job learning and ad-hoc learning events including brown bag lunches, webinars and self-directed learning projects
  • Promote detailed assignments, job rotations and detail assignments between offices/teams
  • Advocate for learning and development as valuable use of time
  • Encourage staff to take an active responsibility for their own career development
  • Support supervisors in championing the implementation of staff members’ Career Development Plans
  • Identify and promote available internal and external development opportunities
  • Support onboarding staff by promoting available development resources
  • Provide support on related human resource functions like recruitment and selection, benefit and entitlement administration, and similar functions.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of experience in Human Resources, Social Sciences or other relevant field with in-depth knowledge of general Human Resources practices and methods gained through relevant technical training and experience

Required experience:

48 Months

Experience remark:

  • 4 years of postgraduate experience in Staff Training and Development
  • People Management: Ability to lead, develop, coach and support a high performing team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, articulate, influential, concise and able to negotiate
  • Experience in the usage of Computer and Office software packages, (ERP, MS Word, MS. Excel, PowerPoint) etc.
  • Ability to conduct staff surveys and performance data analysis
  • Experience in handling of web-based management system is highly desirable
  • Professional work experience working in the UN or other international development organization is desirable.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills; experience of working with Colleagues, able to build strong working relationships, gaining trust and mutual respect, being flexible, responding to perspective and being assertive when appropriate
  • Excellent organization skills: ability to manage time and tight schedules work effectively under pressure
