Nine out of 24 CO’s in the LAC region have already an established Private Sector Engagement strategy and supporting organization, primarily aimed at fundraising. This is a highly successful venture raising nearly $100 million yearly and contributing to fund LAC CO programmes across the region and Regular Resources to UNICEF globally. The other emerging CO’s (15) have now engaged to various degrees with private sector, via corporate and philanthropic partnerships and more recently started individual fundraising.

In 2019 there was a business case established recognizing significant opportunity in Individuals Fundraising in 6 markets across the region. In addition, there are opportunities identified in 2 Country Offices in the region in Corporate and Philanthropic Fundraising. It is most efficient, to provide focused skilled resources and support to accompany the development of Individuals and Corporate fundraising in select markets, pooling resources to avoid a costly replication across relatively small fundraising markets when possible, whilst accelerating opportunities. This is the purpose of this position to leverage the scale of our existing fundraising infrastructure, provide support and strategic coordination to these emerging markets on their development of Private Sector engagement.

How can you make a difference?

The primary function of this post is to develop, design, plan and implement activities with the private sector in Emerging Private Sector Fundraising markets in the LAC Region in order to generate additional regular resources for UNICEF.

This Temporary Appointment (TA) post will help develop Private Sector Fundraising Performance in six markets focused on Individuals Giving and two markets where Corporate and Philanthropic potential has been identified. The successful candidate will provide specialist support and ensure that Individual Giving, Corporate and Philanthropic activities are profitable and in line with investment criteria. They will help ensure that the Emerging Markets are working towards a point of sustainability, providing funding for both the Country Programme and also future fundraising activities.

The incumbent is expected to ensure that COs will raise funds according to annual plans and that the main duties will be implemented in agreement with COs and according to UNICEF policies, with the following expected measurable results:

1. Support proactively and, when required, directly implement private sector engagement activities (70% Individuals and 30% High Value Channels), in Emerging PSFR Markets in the LAC Region in coordination with the locally designated resources.

2. Provide Individuals technical expertise in addition to Corporate and Philanthropic fundraising expertise focused on maximizing high value potential, so that Emerging Markets can reach their revenue targets relative to investment received.

3. Coordinates the development of private sector plans for emerging markets, including securing and allocating investment resources when needed. Monitor the investment associated with private sector engagement in the emerging markets and ensure that it is in line with investment criteria, evaluate the effectiveness of the activities and recommend modifications when required.

4. Support the mapping, outreach and nurturing, of Philanthropy opportunities (Major Donors and Foundations) in close coordination with the RSC Philanthropy specialists.

5. Serve as liaison person between emerging markets, the Regional Support Centre team (including Specialists) and PFP resources in all matters relating to Private Sector Engagement. Ensures that Emerging Markets needs are considered in policy development and transversal resources allocations.

6. Manage the regional hub (Digital and telemarketing) including the management and diversification of regional vendors designed to implement fundraising activities in Emerging markets; management of payment process; management of the communications approval process and approval with CO’s ; development and implementation of an emergency fundraising via the hub.

7. Carry out regular revenue tracking through quarterly tracking in-depth analysis of KPIs and regular engagement with countries to monitor results. In case of shortfall, work with assigned Country Offices to identify and implement corrective action. Identify opportunities for delivering revenue upside in Country Offices to offset shortfalls in others. Provides mid and end of year Reviews

8. Analyze, develop, adjust and promotes long/term strategies and programmes to maximize revenue potential for emerging markets. Monitor the progress towards the point of sustainability and advice COs on potential corrective actions to be implement.

9. The incumbent coordinates approach with LAC Corporate for new opportunities that have the potential to be Multi Country Alliances. Due diligence processes will need to be led by the incumbent.

Based on the above activities, the incumbent is expected to meet the following measurable deliverables:

a) Advance Individuals Fundraising with a focus on Digital, TM / Panamá, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Paraguay and others upon request to deliver revenue goals. b) Launch Opportunities (country or multicountry level) for Corporate Fundraising in markets where the opportunity has been identified c) Manage and expand the regional digital hub (telemarketing and digital) to delivery on revenue goals; manage the communication process with RO Comms and Individual CO’s ; establish an emergency response plan; manage payment process d) Provide ongoing technical support to the Emerging Markets through weekly calls; monitor monthly income ensuring it is in line with targets e) Create plans for investment, provide support for investment proposals and ensure implementation per the investment fund criteria f) Review results on a biannual basis g) Resolve support requests and maximize potential Individual giving channel and, for high value for Corporate engagement (for the relevant emerging markets with the support of the Regional Corporate Specialists h) Diversify regional fundraising suppliers and vendors an implementation plan for vendors and partner agencies to ensure activities implementation.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced University degree in any of the following: Marketing, Fundraising, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Public Administration or other relevant field. *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years hands-on experience, in progressively responsible roles, of managing fundraising including in Individual Giving, within the Latin America Region or at international level, supervising and supporting several countries simultaneously, is a requirement.
  • Hands-on experience with emerging markets and digital marketing is required. Experience of working in a hub approach will be considered an asset.
  • Management Experience from previous roles, either as direct manager or as a coordinator of complex initiatives involving other teams or managing multi-million dollar gross revenue profits is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of individual fundraising trends across multiple markets is an asset.
  • Experience of both agency and in-house individual giving campaigns would be an advantage.
  • Experience of other pledge (Regular giving) fundraising is an asset.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency (verbal and written) in English and Spanish is required.
