Under the general guidance of the MENARO Health Specialist (Regional Polio Coordinator), and in close collaboration with the EMRO/MENARO IMST, the incumbent will be deployed to polio outbreak countries within the MENA region, as a member of Team A, according to IMST working plan and GPEI outbreak SOPs. The incumbent will be responsible for providing immediate technical guidance, leadership and strategic inputs for the development and implementation of evidence-based vaccine management strategies to strengthen the capacity of the Ministries of health of Polio outbreak countries for timely and effective planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of vaccine management activities in polio outbreak responses.

The Immunization specialist (Vaccine Management/Polio) will closely work with national counterparts in the Ministries of Health of polio outbreak countries, as well as the partners of the GPEI, including WHO, CDC, Rotary, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and any other partners to provide technical support on cold chain, logistics and vaccine management during outbreak response preparedness and implementation.

Key functions, accountabilities, and related duties/tasks:

  1. Support the MoH and GPEI teams to plan, implement, monitor and supervise all aspects of the Cold Chain Logistics and Vaccine Management as outlined in the SOPs and technical guidelines for the polio outbreak response.
  2. In the case of SIAs using mOPV2, provide technical assistance to the MoH and GPEI partners to ensure compliance with procedures,
  3. Provide frequent and regular reports to the MoH on all aspects of vaccine management, cold chain logistics and contribute to the drafting of SITREPS and bulletins. Prepare reports according to GPEI requirements.
  4. Support immunization in general in the areas of cold chain, vaccine management and assessment and work for integration of Polio into immunization and primary health care.
  5. Support outbreak response assessment teams (OBRAs) with information related to vaccine management, logistics and the cold chain.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in logistics management, supply chain, health logistics or other health-related fields (medical, pharmacy, engineering). A relevant Bachelors degree may be accepted with an additional 2 years of relevant work experience in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience at national and international level in Routine Immunization and/or Supplementary Immunization Activities logistics management (Cold Chain, Vaccine Management, Waste Management), vaccination campaign logistics management. Field experience or training in mOPV2 management will be an asset. “CCL/VM activities during polio SIAs” eLearning certificate is required. Have skills in leadership, teamwork and training.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is of added value.
