You have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited academic institution in Nursing in Costa Rica.
- A valid license to practice nursing in Costa Rica.
- Minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience for Bachelor's Degree holder.
- Knowledge of principles of preventive care and disease control.
- Knowledge of and experience in implementation of patient safety and infection prevention and control.
- Experience in primary care, emergency care, public health, or work with vulnerable populations is an advantage.
- Experience in managing medical records and basic nursing procedures.
- Previous experience with migrant populations or in humanitarian contexts is desirable.
- Fluency in English required.
- Fluency in Spanish required.
Under the overall supervision of the Protection Officer and the direct supervision of the Migration Health Physician, the Migration Health Nurse (MHN) will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities in relation to the Assisted Vountary returns ( AVR) under the GAVR in San Jose, Costa Rica
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited academic institution in Nursing in Costa Rica.
- A valid license to practice nursing in Costa Rica.
Experience:
- For Bachelor's Degree holder a minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience.
- Knowledge of principles of preventive care and disease control.
- Knowledge of and experience in implementation of patient safety and infection prevention and control.
- Experience in primary care, emergency care, public health, or work with vulnerable populations is an advantage.
- Experience in managing medical records and basic nursing procedures.
- Previous experience with migrant populations or in humanitarian contexts is desirable.
- Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access).
Skills:

Languages:

Responsibilities
- Perform daily nursing activities in reception points, transit centers, temporary shelters, hotels and other operational locations defined by the mission and programme, to fulfil the AVR medical program needs in the ares of:
- Medical examinations,
- Such as checking vital signs, weight, height, visual acuity where applicable;
- Imaging and Laboratory testing referral;
- Treatment and referrals;
- Accompany migrants to medical appointments
- Pre and post counselling on related medical conditions involving education, prevention and management as appropriate.
- Pre-departure procedures and medical movements;
- Fitness to travel:
- Documentation, certification and information transmission; and,
- Other technical areas as may be required.
- Ensure implementation of a proper identification procedure for all migrants in relation to AVR health process
- Follow and implement the AVR medical Programme’s check lists and SOP’s and maintain standard universal precautions within your work areas. Participate in quality improvement and quality assurance procedures for nursing activities, contribute to review and update SOPs.
- Maintain and monitor the minimum pharmacy, stock, medical kits and emergency kits within the mission and for medical escorts if applicable.
- Prepare administrative reports and program updates as necessary.
- Support the planning and execution of mobile missions if applicable.
- Assist with pre-departure documents, briefings and preparations as necessary.
- Perform medical escort duties when required to ensure migrants receive continued care throughout all phases of migration (before departure, during the journey and at the final destination).
- Maintain collaborative relationships with various partners to facilitate the medical follow up and relevant information sharing. Partners include internal IOM departments, other health providers, healthcare facilities, or NGO’s and others as applicable.
- Collect statistical information and share with the Senior Migration Health Physician or AVR program management as per preset and agreed upon format.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
