The Macroeconomic Planning and Financing Development Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific is responsible for providing comprehensive economic analysis, advice, and capacity building to its member states. MPFD is responsible for producing ESCAP’s flagship report, the Economic and Social Survey for Asia and the Pacific (‘Survey’). The Survey presents the latest macroeconomic trends, identify emerging risks and challenges, and takes stock of the public debt profile in the Asia-Pacific region. The report provides recommendations for policymakers, civil society and academia.
In this regard, the online volunteer will work with the economic affairs officer and the communications consultant of MPFD to produce public debt dashboard using PowerBI.
This online assignment will benefit the selected Online Volunteer with the opportunity to improve his/her skill in research and problem-solving through public debt data gathering, an in-depth learning experience on the use of the Microsoft Power BI platform, and most importantly, first-hand participation in the UN’s work. Also, this will promote a sense of volunteerism even in the comfort of one’s home.
The Online Volunteer is expected to provide necessary support by performing the following tasks: 1. Collect public debt data from national sources and/or other international databases. 2. Perform data cleaning and build the public debt database. 3. Visualize public debt data in a meaningful way using PowerBI. 4. Compile public debt profiles of all economies in Asia and the Pacific and produce data report. 5. Design the interface of online data portal based on PowerBI. 6. Review and verify all the debt data used in the Survey 2023 draft report and ensure the correctness of all sources.
