You have:

• Be enrolled in a Master’s Degree program in international relations, law, public administration, business administration, environmental management, or related field; OR Be enrolled in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree program in the same fields; OR Have graduated with a university degree in the same fields.
• Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required.
• Knowledge of Portuguese or French is an advantage.
• Have a working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
• No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system´s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) located in Panama City, Panama, works with the 33 countries of the region to serve their needs and its activities are integrated into the work programmes approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). The Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean (the Forum) is the longest standing and most important space for political dialogue and collaboration among the countries of the region in the environment field. It also generates inputs from the region to UNEA. UNEP LACO serves as its Secretariat. Interns are sought for a three to six month internship period. The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours). Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer in the Regional Director´s Office of LACO, the intern will be supportting the activities of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean. The tasks could include: • Contributing to the identification and processing of information related to the priorities of the countries of the region with regards to the environment. • Assisting with the organization of meetings, webinars and similar activities, including the preparation of agendas, drafting of background materials and meeting reports, in close coordination with the Programme Management Officer. • Supporting the preparation of briefing notes, information materials, and power point presentations. • Supporting the regular updating of the webpages of the Forum, as well as the preparation of communications materials such as press releases and newsletters. • Updating databases related to regional focal points and activities of the Forum. • Carry out research, analysis and drafting of documents presenting data and information gathered from diverse sources to support the implementation of the activities of the Forum. • Support the work of Working Groups of the Forum, through preparation of meeting materials, taking notes, or gathering relevant information from different sources. • Support other activities of the Regional Direction Office as requested.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a Master´s Degree program in international relations, law, public administration, business administration, environmental management, or related field; OR b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a Bachelor´s degree program in international relations, law, public administration, business administration, environmental management, or related field; OR c. Have graduated with a university degree in international relations, law, public administration, business administration, environmental management, or related field. In addition, the candidate must have a working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. the candidate´s training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during the internship.

Languages
