Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is an acute tick-borne zoonotic disease caused by the Crimea-Congo virus of the Nairoviridae family. CCHF is asymptomatic in 60–80% of cases, and the remaining 20–40% of cases usually suffer from initial fever, headache and malaise followed by gastrointestinal symptoms; severe cases can experience bleeding, shock and multi-organ system failure. The geographical distribution of CCHF overlaps with the distribution of the hard tick vector – mainly Hyalomma marginatum – that is, Africa, Asia and Europe. Iraq is endemic for CCHF. Since the first report of CCHF in Iraq in 1979, there have been sporadic outbreaks of disease interspersed with periods of no registered cases. Between 2007 to 2020, no cases were reported in 4 years (2008, 2014, 2016 and 2017), and the highest number of cases in any given year was 10 (in 2020). According to data from the Ministry of Health, Iraq, there has been a surge in cases over the last 2 years, Between 1 January to 22 May 2022, the health authorities of the Republic of Iraq notified WHO of 212 cases of CCHF, of which 115 (54%) were suspected and 97 (46%) laboratory-confirmed; there were 27 deaths, 14 in suspected cases and 13 in laboratory confirmed cases. 1722 case was reported in the first eight months of 2023 which is much higher than that reported in 2021 and 2022. We anticipate that online volunteers, dedicating approximately 20 hours per week, will be instrumental in helping us carry out this important assignment and contribute to our efforts in making a positive impact on the lives of these affected communities.

WHO Iraq seeks the help of 2 online volunteers who will work collaboratively with the contact person of the organization to draft a high-quality scientific paper. Among the 2 volunteers, the tasks will be split into 2 categories as follows: a) research in certain areas: who could conduct research on Risk communication and community engagement importance in models related to health promotion and could provide subject-specific inputs. b) research in certain areas: review WHO Iraq and MoH achievement in combating CCHF and merge with mentioned above health promotion theories. How RCCE helped flattening the outbreak curve. At the end of assignment volunteers will be issued with a certificate of appreciation from. Online volunteers won't be requested to contact any third party on our behalf.
