The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized technical agency of the United Nations established in 1945 whose mission is to contribute to eradicating hunger and achieving food security for all. FAO was the first UN Agency for field work in Nepal since November 1951 and the Country Office was established in February 1977.

FAO was the first UN Agency to start field work in Nepal since November 1951 and the Country Office was established in February 1977. Currently in Nepal, FAO projects focuses on technical capacity building, policy development, enhancing agri-production, strengthening food systems, improving food and nutrition security, enhancing resilience to Disasters and impacts of Climate Change as well as threats posed by zoonotic diseases to human health through the One Health approach. In line with the Country Programme Framework (CPF), FAO Nepal has implemented several projects in the areas of food security and nutrition, agricultural and rural development, climate change adaptation and mitigation, natural resources (land, water, forestry, fisheries, biodiversity, etc.) management, agri-statistics, early warning, agri-marketing, animal health and zoonotic disease control. In addition, FAO also contributes to the coordination of humanitarian assistance/relief and transition to livelihoods recovery within the agriculture sector, under the framework of the food security cluster.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Communication Team, the Online Volunteer to support website content management will:

  • Familiarize to web development and manage the web portal of FAO Nepal.
  • Promote the creative content through social media.
  • Regularly update and review website and social media engagement.
  • Develop and design static/ GIF content for social media and website.
  • Assist communication unit for better visibility of the organization.

Results/expected outputs:

As an active FAO team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to FAO and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:

 Development of static design and GIFs  Increased social media engagement

• At least 1 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in social media management, graphic designing or other relevant programmes; experience with web handling is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; • Sound knowledge in Photoshop, graphic designing and • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in communication and media, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System
