    Duties and Responsibilities Background:

UN Day has been celebrated on 24 October since 1948 marking the anniversary of the signing, in 1945, of the UN Charter. With the ratification of our founding document by a majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. Over the past 2 years, the UNCT in Saudi Arabia has strengthened how we make strategic use of UN Day to highlight the SDGs and the work of the UN; in 2021 we celebrated SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing and in 2022, we celebrated SDG17 – Partnerships for the Goals. As part of our planning for 2023, we are looking to build on our good practices with a UN Day that serves as a culmination of a series of dialogues throughout the year, connected to the 4 Strategic Priority Areas of the UNSDCF 2022 – 2026 and appropriate international days. In suggesting topics, we sought to highlight an area that is not already well covered but where the UN can help make a difference. Therefore, we suggest that we focus on ‘Promoting Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. We would look at DI from multiple angles including Children, Youth, Gender, Environment, Urban, Technology and Innovation, Academia/Research and Private Sector, leveraging our partnerships and international days to highlight progress and challenges. We celebrate UN Day 2023 with the theme of Accelerating Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, drawing on the progress made across the Kingdom, exploring good practice, understanding remaining challenges, and laying out pathways for accelerating progress.
