Result of Service By the end of the temporary service the contractor will have successfully contributed to the achievement of selected components of the CMS Scientific Programme, as specified in the section 'Duties and Responsibilities' of this JO, and the production of the expected outputs, that include: - Outreach material on the threats posed by light pollution to migratory species and initiatives undertaken in the framework of CMS to mitigate them; - Webinars on the impacts and mitigation of light pollution on migratory taxa; - Input to ScC-SC6 and COP14 documents on light pollution; - Technical and logistical support to Intersessional Working Group and workshops of Scientific Council members, allowing them to fulfil their mandates; - Scientific reviews and reports on (i) the conservation status of migratory species, (ii) insect decline and its cascading effect on insectivorous migratory species, (iii) migration and wildlife disease dynamics and the health of migratory species foreseen by SSFAs are delivered in accordance with specifications - Input to selected ScC-SC6 and COP14 documents

Duties and Responsibilities Organizational setting: The United Nations Environment Programme is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Duties and responsibilities will include the following main assignments:

(i) Impacts and mitigation of light pollution on migratory species - Developing outreach material aimed at raising awareness on the threats posed by light pollution to migratory species and initiatives undertaken in the framework of CMS to mitigate them, based on new CMS light pollution guidelines that are being finalized. - Organization of webinars on the impacts and mitigation of light pollution on migratory taxa. - Give input to finalization of documents for ScC and COP consideration.

(ii) Finalizing key workstreams of the Scientific Council - Provide technical and logistical support to Intersessional Working Groups established by the Scientific Council to deliver COP13 mandates; - Provide technical and logistical support to ad hoc workshops of Scientific Council members to review documents to be submitted to COP14 for consideration; - Ensure the technical management of work aimed at the production of scientific reviews and reports on (i) the conservation status of migratory species, (ii) insect decline and its cascading effect on insectivorous migratory species, (iii) migration and wildlife disease dynamics and the health of migratory species; - Input to selected documents for ScC and COP consideration.

(iii) Other duties as required

Qualifications/special skills A university degree (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent) in biological science, environmental sciences, environmental law, or another discipline relevant to the task is required. Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience related to a field relevant to the tasks. Proficient knowledge on the use of MS Word and Excel is required. Familiarity with CMS or other multilateral environmental agreements desirable.

Languages English, French and Spanish are the working languages of the Convention. For this assignment, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be an advantage.
