Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

UNDP is the UN's global development network, assisting countries to build and share solutions to the challenges of globalization and human development. UNDP’s support to countries on climate change and disaster resilience is guided by three key global agreements: the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

UNDP works with countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and advance the long-term goal of zero-carbon development. At the same time, we collaborate with partners to help countries adapt to the impacts of climate change, enhance access to clean energy, reduce disaster risks, and support resilient recovery when disasters occur. Together, these efforts chart a path toward sustainable development that is risk-informed, zero-carbon, and resilient.

In line with these efforts, UNDP’s Climate and Disaster Resilience Team in Istanbul aims to strengthen countries’ capacities to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to the growing impacts of climate and disaster risks across Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans and Türkiye, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia.

Increasing temperatures, water scarcity, and more frequent extreme weather events pose significant risks to lives, livelihoods, and sustainable development. To plan effective adaptation measures and strengthen resilience, countries require comprehensive, accurate, and accessible risk information. This includes well-developed risk profiles, analytical briefs, and knowledge products that translate complex climate and disaster data into clear insights for policymakers and stakeholders.

To address this, UNDP, in cooperation with UNV, will engage Online Volunteers to support the Climate and Disaster Resilience Team in analyzing, developing, and consolidating country and regional risk profiles on climate change and disaster risks.

The selected Online Volunteers will support UNDP’s Climate and Disaster Resilience Team in the Istanbul Regional Hub by:

· Knowledge Management and Analysis: Contributing to risk analysis, narrative drafting, and preparation of resilience-related knowledge products.

· Risk Profile Development: Supporting the drafting and structuring of country and regional level climate and disaster risk profiles.

Under the direct supervision of UNDP Climate and Disaster Resilience Team Leader a.i., the Online Volunteer will:

· Support the analysis of disaster & climate data, reports, and risk profiles.

· Assist in conducting research and analysis related to climate change and disaster resilience.

· Develop analytical reports at the countries, sub-regional and regional level in ECIS region.
