Through their commitment to accountability to affected people (AAP), OCHA aims to ensure humanitarian action protects and preserves the rights and dignity of crisis-affected people, remains relevant and effective, leaves no one behind and upholds humanitarian principles. This is done through AAP training of staff within Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs) as mandated by the IASC HCT Terms of Reference. Given its broad geographical scope, OCHA aims to tailor all products designed to enhance staff understanding of AAP to the specific needs of each context. This includes systematically translating such products into the relevant languages spoken by the local community.

Online volunteers will get familiar with the activities and tools used by OCHA to enforce AAP. Upon completion of the assignment, they will translate key documents and tools, including: 12 handouts (1 page each), 1 baseline and evaluation document (7 pages), 5 Power Point presentation training modules (module 1: 15 slides, module 2: 41 slides, module 3: 28 slides, module 4: 42 slides along with 21 pages of simulation materials, module 5: 11 slides), 1 recap exercise document (1 page), and 1 facilitator’s notes document (36 pages) into Spanish. The tools will be used to strengthen OCHA capacity in emergency situations. Each volunteer will be responsible for translations into Spanish. Online volunteers will also be asked to attend meetings in the Central European Summer Time (CEST) zone.

Bachelor’s degree in languages, translation, linguistic and intercultural mediation or International Relations, Humanitarian studies or a similar field is required. Good translation skills from English to Spanish is required. Knowledge of humanitarian and/or development-related terms would be a strong asset. Self-motivation, communication skills and respect for deadlines are desirable.
