Numerous studies, including OHCHR’s latest report on race and gender discrimination in sport (A/HRC/44/26) point to the discriminatory factors that deny women and girls participation in sport. Among those factors is the lack of measures to address gender-based violence in sport, including sexual exploitation and abuse. But little research assesses how the sport ecosystem drives gender equality, namely by preventing and responding to gender-based violence, for social change and opportunities.

By conducting this assignment, the Online Volunteer contributes to developing preliminary research that will inform the programme of OHCHR on unite4rights.

We are looking for 1 Online Volunteer who has experience in research with excellent writing skills. The task will include the following responsibilities: 1. Review the existing research on gender-based violence and sport to analyze how sport contributes to preventing gender-based violence/harmful practices 2. Indicate the strategies that have been implemented by sport organizations, states, and other relevant actors, in a compendium of promising practices. 3. Identify gaps and provide recommendations for further prevention and protection through sport. 4. Develop a short report on key findings (25 pages max.).

Candidates should have strong research and analytical skills as well as excellent written command of English. Background knowledge and working experience on gender equality, violence against women, and harmful practices. A degree in international human rights and related fields is considered an asset. Previous drafting research on the topic of women and sport is desirable
