This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Representative, the Assistant Representative, or delegated officer, will be the direct supervisor of the UNV that will assist the GBV officer and Spotlight provincial focal points, the National UN Volunteers to support the implementation of Spotlight Initiative will:

  • Support the implementation of UNFPA-led components of the Spot Light Initiative (SL) programme strategy in the selected provinces and districts, as described in the SLI CPD and implementation planning processes, under the guidance of the UN provincial focal point for SLI, the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Officer.
  • Support the implementation of UNFPA activities in coordination with other UN agencies (RUNOs) and Implementation Partners (including Government and Civil Society) on the ground following the guidance of the Country Office and the UN provincial focal point for SLI.
  • Support the implementation of interventions under pillar 4 and pillar 5 of the SLI, coordinating with implementation partners from the government and civil society, monitor progress and report according to the plans and guidelines. Contribute Knowledge a good practices platform.
  • Assist in the periodic revisions of UNFPA support with the Government authorities, representatives of bilateral agencies and regional organizations;
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisors.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

University degree in social sciences, law or related fields. Specialized knowledge in the field of Gender Issues and/or Human Rights will be considered an advantage.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

  • At least 2 years of experience in development or implementation of projects.
  • Experience in relation with gender issues, sexual and reproductive health and/or Human Rights is an advantage.
  • Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others; #
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team; Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions; Knowledge of local languages is an asset;
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely;

Language skills:

  • Portuguese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise details:

  • Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).
  • Knowledge of local languages is an asset
