UNICEF has been achieving important progress on education, child rights, nutrition, and WASH in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Challenges remain, though, and in spite of its vast physical size and limitless natural resources, the DRC poses a complex operational environment in terms of infrastructure challenges. Child poverty is widespread, and according to a recent UNICEF study, 80 percent of children aged zero to 15 years old face at least two major deprivations. How can you make a difference?

The Supply Chain Specialist reports to the Immunization Manager for general guidance and supervision. The incumbent is responsible for supply chain operations in vaccines and essential drugs which includes planning, procurement, contracting, customs clearance, warehousing, in-country transport and distribution, as well as monitoring of supplies, services and construction works. The incumbent collaborates closely with programmes in defining supply interventions to meet programmatic needs and achieve results for children, and provides technical and advisory support to governments, national systems and partners on supply chain management.

1. Support in the strengthening of the supply chain through 3 modern hubs (Kinshasa, Kisangani and Lubumbashi).

2. Support in the reinforcement of technical capacity at provincial central stores and support to distribution mechanisms from the provincial to the operational level.

3. Support in cold chain management strengthening in the country in the framework of CCEOP1 and CCEOP2 (i.e. cold chain reinforcement with solar refrigerator).

4. Support for the installation of cold room temperature monitoring systems at provincial level.

5. Study of vaccine wastage rates in DRC.

6. Support to vaccine management strengthening at all levels of the system in order to ensure the availability of vaccines at front level at all time.

7. Support in Efficiency Vaccines Management (EVM) evaluation and ensure the implementation of recommendations.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: Advanced University Degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Contract/Commercial Law, International Development, Health or related social science field.

Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, at the national and international levels, in supply, logistics, procurement, contracting, administration and/or other directly related technical field is required.

Understanding of development and humanitarian work.

Emergency experience an advantage.

Health supply chain management experience an advantage.

Language requirements: Fluency in French and English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
