Org. Setting and Reporting UNTSO was the first peacekeeping operation established by the Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1949), and continues to represent the commitment of the Council to assist in the implementation of the 1949 Armistice Agreements and their attendant ceasefires. In its resolution 73 (1949), the Council requested the Secretary-General to arrange for the continued service of such UNTSO personnel as might be required in observing and maintaining the ceasefire, as requested by the Council in its resolution 54 (1948), and as might be necessary in assisting the parties to the Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. Its mandate derives from Security Council resolutions and decisions, including foundational resolutions 50 (1948), 54 (1948), and 73 (1949). UNTSO ’s activities are spread over Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic to maintain the regional liaison architecture established under the Armistice Agreements.

These positions are located in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), Naqoura-Lebanon, Tiberias-Israel and Damascus-Syria. Under the overall guidance of the Chief, Supply / Life Support Unit based at HQ, the Supply Assistant, FS-5, reports to the Regional Administrative Officer on all assigned tasks for the above-mentioned regional offices.

Responsibilities Within the limits of delegated authority, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:

Receive on-line requisitions for stores supplies / rations from Teams; verifies the requisitions and issues in accordance with their monthly requirements; ensure that items are issued to requesting offices/Sections as per approved requisitions without delay.

Monitor stock of supplies and rations in the stores; Conduct regular stock taking of expendable items in the supply stores and prepare reports on discrepancies observed.

Ensure that items in the supply stores are arranged in an orderly manner; Plan well in advance, raise reservations on UMOJA and receive the required supplies in order to maintain adequate stock for issuance.

Implement Quality Control/Assurance and KPIs to ensure the contractual terms, costs and schedules.

Receiving and inspecting of goods delivered by vendors, received from HQ and regional missions; Process internal Receipt and Inspection (R&I) reports for goods in the Supply Stores and forward to R&I unit for processing records of the goods in Umoja, and issue to end users according to established procedures; Update stock cards for acquired products;

Weekly reconciliation of receipt and issues in order to confirm that nothing is being misappropriated.

Conduct periodic inventory verification of UN non-expendable property and inventory managed by the Supply / Rations Unit and update records in Umoja by processing issue vouchers to individual/end users of UN property for purpose of transparency and accountability;

Assist with ensuring implementation of the internal control systems including accounting, report and maintenance of all electronic/hardcopy records to ensure proper audit trail.

Initiate procedures inclusive of all correspondence and the physical receipt and dispatch of all incoming and outgoing shipment of personnel effects for the Military Observers for the Regional Office.

Implement recommendations made Occupational Health and safety Board; Identify and issue advisories to all outstation personnel on health and safety risks. Issue, monitor the expiries and decide for replenishment of all Military Combat Rations for all staff and military observers for the Regional Office.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in at least one of the following areas: procurement/contract management, inventory management, and supply management is desirable.

Job - Specific Qualification Valid Drivers License - Minimum 7 tons is required.

Certificates and user on UMOJA (SAP) are required.

Work Experience A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in supply services, inventory management, procurement, logistics, project management or related area is required.

At least 5 years of experience at the international level is required.

Experience in supporting supply and rations services in support of or in a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required, Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
