Do you want to join a new team setting up a multi-year international project managed by the Global Protection Unit in HQ? We are looking for a motivated student to support the ASPIRE-project, together with the team in Copenhagen, Uganda and support the start-up in Kenya?

Who are we?

ASPIRE: The ASPIRE project is a unique and progressive research project in partnership with UNHCR. The overall objective of ASPIRE is to provide in-depth new knowledge about how young people, affected by the civil war(s) in South Sudan, over time, contribute to peaceful coexistence in their communities. The research will be implemented alongside UNHCR’s Regional Youth Peacebuilding Project (RYPP), starting in camps in West Nile, Uganda with plans to expand to more countries. The ASPIRE project builds on a 4-year research project led by DRC in affiliation with University of Copenhagen.

About the job

The ASPIRE project is seeking a student currently enrolled in anthropology, ethnography, global development or another closely related study. The student worker will be an integral part of the team, supporting with the setup of ASPIRE and being involved processing interviews collected by our team of field-based researchers in communities of West Nile (Uganda) and Kakuma (Kenya), and supporting the initial stakeholder mapping of research locations on collaboration with the research team.

Key tasks include, but are not necessarily limited to:

• Transcription of interviews and support processing of interview data
• Support desk-based stakeholder mapping of research locations in collaboration with staff on the ground in Uganda and Kenya
• Practical and administrative assistance in relation to field visits, workshops and meetings, as required.
• Conduct a mapping of donors relevant for the project.
• Support the data management for and proofreading of reports.
• Systematic literature search.
• Support the supervision of research assistants in regard to qualitative methods, technical issues, etc.

About you

We strongly imagine that your studies focus on anthropology, of which you have completed 2 years already.

It is key that you live up to the following requirements:

• Have an interest in humanitarian assistance and development, international relations and refugee issues.
• Have completed 2 years of studies, preferably in anthropology, ethnography, global development or another closely related study.
• Fluency in both oral and written English.
• Proactive, flexible and detail-oriented approach to tasks and a service minded approach.
• Good collaboration and communication skills and ability to build good working relations with people from different cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
• Experience from East Africa is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

We offer

Contract length: 11 months (with the possibility of extension, subject to funding).

Working hours: 15-20 hours per week.

Work place: Borgergade 10, 1300 Copenhagen.

Start date: 15 February 2024, until the end of 2024, subject to extension upon further funding.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and HK. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.

University enrollment is a precondition for the position. The role will be based in Denmark.
