Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a student assistant to support the Programme Division. The Programme Division develops programmatic concepts and strategies relevant to DRC’s international operations and delivers support to operations in the field within these areas. It also has the lead in developing position papers on DRC’s key advocacy and policy priorities. The Programme Division currently hosts various global specialist lead functions such as Protection, Economic Recovery & Livelihood, Addressing Root Causes, and Solutions to Displacement, Emergency and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding and Civil Society Engagement. The Division furthermore hosts several strategic grants and projects and supports delivery both from Copenhagen and Geneva.

About the job

The role is very much focused on supporting colleagues across the Programme Division with a wide variety of activities including preparing and facilitating meetings and workshops, support with internal event organisation and planning, maintain and development the Programme Division Insite Pages and Sharepoint, support with donor reporting and coordination and document collection of global audits, among others The position will give you great insight into how a humanitarian organisation works, and help support all areas of programming within the organisation and not least work closely with colleagues in HQ as well as regional and countries offices. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Prepare and facilitate meetings and workshops, including minute taking and support follow-up as directed
  • Perform various administrative tasks as needed, such as processing payments, archiving, and maintaining mailing lists, as well as providing ad hoc administrative support (incl legalisation of documents, issuing of visa requests and follow-up with relevant national authorities)
  • Support internal event organisation and planning, including catering, participant communication, coordination, hotel and facility/conference room booking etc.
  • Maintain, edit and upload information on the Programme division to DRC Insite pages and Sharepoint
  • Collate, edit and layout global donor reports and proposals (Danida, SIDA)
  • Support coordination and document collection for global audits
  • Ad hoc tasks as needed

About you

We are looking for a proactive and systematic person, who can work independently but who also works well with others. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Be enrolled in higher education, e.g. university
  • Have completed at least two years of higher education and have at least two years left of your education
  • Confirm that you have the required permits to work and live in Denmark
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English
  • Commitment to the values and Code of Conduct of the Danish Refugee Council

Desirable:

  • Have an interest in humanitarian assistance and international development
  • Be highly systematic
  • Have keen research and analytical skills, an eye for detail, and good written and verbal communication skills
  • Be an experienced user of Office 365,
  • Experience with development of databases or search functions in Excel
  • Ability to organise your own work, and to balance and prioritise different tasks
  • Be a team player with good interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Be open-minded and flexible
  • Knowledge of Danish, French, Arabic or Spanish is an advantage

The candidate is expected to work 15 hours per week.

Contract length: Permanent

Designation of Duty Station: DRC Headquarters at Borgergade 10, 1300 Copenhagen K

Start date: flexible, ideally July or beginning of August, 2023

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and HK. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
