You have:
- An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in clinical Psychology, clinical Psychiatry with clinical license to provide psychological counseling and/or psychotherapy is required.
- Additional training or certification in related fields is also required.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in psychosocial occupational health and critical incident management is required.
- 3 years of experience should be at the international level.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Result of Service
The incumbent is required to provide the following: - Easy access to counseling services to staff in participating UN Entities; - Comprehensive resilience building program including psychological education; - Ongoing improvement in the working environment and monitoring mechanism of the stressful factors and provision of technical advice to senior managers based on psycho-social Risk Assessment.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Stress Counsellor will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Doctor, ESCWA, in coordination with DHMOSH/DOS. As this is a post jointly funded by the participating organizations, it is planned for the Stress Counsellor to operate from the ESCWA offices as well as other selected offices. The functions of the stress counsellor will be performed under the umbrella of occupational safety, health & wellbeing at the workplace: 1. Counseling and Training Activities for UN Staff from the participating UN Entities: • Provides individual and group counseling sessions (sessions may also be provided to dependents during crisis). • Organizes and conducts training sessions on stress prevention and stress related issues. • Promotes, plans and implements welfare activities. 2. Participates in implementing UN Mental Health Strategy: • On going assessment of psycho-social Risk Assessment at the workplace and monitors the determinants of stress in the participating UN Offices. 3. Develops and performs tailored activities based on Risk Assessment. Work implies frequent interaction with the following: - Staff members within the work unit and across the participating UN Entities; - Welfare officers and welfare committee; - Medical and Security officers; - HR officers.
Qualifications/special skills
An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in clinical Psychology, clinical Psychiatry with clinical license to provide psychological counseling and/ or psychotherapy is required. Additional training or certification is also required in a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse, stress management, traumatic stress, cross-cultural communication, conflict resolution, etc. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in psychosocial occupational health and critical incident management is required, of which three should be at the international level. Experience with international communities and in Employee Assistance Program or Organizational Intervention is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
