Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

The Strategic Planning, Monitoring & Reporting Branch ensures the alignment of UN-Habitat’s activities, programmes and projects with its own strategic plan for the period 2020-2023 and UN frameworks. An important task of the branch is the compilation of the UN-Habitat Quarterly and Annual Reports, which provide member states and other stakeholders with an overview of the yearly results and impact achieved by the Agency.

For this internship, a background in Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Relations, Economic Development, Journalism, Political Science, Communications, Graphic Design, preferably with an interest in urban development, and strong written communication skills are required. Experience in communications and social media outreach and online content development is desirable. Familiarity with social media platforms, graphic design, photo editing software applications and data analytics software tools are a desirable asset.

The candidate must be a self-starter, organized, able to multitask, balance multiple responsibilities, work to a deadline in a multicultural environment and be aware of political sensitivities. Due to the current situation, the internship will be carried out remotely, unless specified otherwise by the supervisor.

The UN-HABITAT/ Strategic Planning, Monitoring & Reporting Branch internship is for 3 months with a possibility for extension depending on the needs of the Organization

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the Supervision of the Strategic Monitoring and Reporting Unit the intern will: - Supporting and contributing to reporting and monitoring and evaluation on programme results, outputs and outcomes, including note-taking of key meetings and helping with the preparation of presentations; - Supporting data collection and analysis; archiving; drafting, editing and fact-checking reports; development of infographics; drafting, typesetting and publication of high-quality reports; - Supporting the production of materials to highlight the achievements of UN-Habitat across all of its projects and programmes, such as success stories about results achieved under UN-Habitat projects and programmes based on relevant inputs from project/programme managers, partners and donors; - Supports the programme planning and results based management processes - Translating information/data into high quality visual infographics and other visual contents; - Performing other administrative and coordination support tasks as may be assigned by the team.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred area of study: Undergraduate/ Graduate in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Urban Development, International Relations, Economic Development, Journalism, Political Science, Communications, Graphic Design, or Digital Communications.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
