UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the Strategic Planning and Analysis Unit, in the Strategic and Programme Planning Service, in our Geneva Office, Switzerland. Established in December 1950, UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights, and building a better future for asylum seekers, refugees, returnees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. Organizational context UNHCR’s Strategic and Programme Planning Service (SPPS) guides and supports multi-year strategic planning at the country, regional and HQ levels. The Service guides the operationalization of the UNHCR Strategic Directions 2022-2026, generating analytics and data to support corporate strategic planning. The incumbent will be part of the Strategic Planning and Analysis Unit (SPAU), Geneva. The unit is a 7-person team responsible for facilitating global and regional strategic planning, as well supporting executive-level management with forecasting and analysis, in order to facilitate data-driven strategic decision making. The team supports regional dialogues between the executive management and Regional Bureaux to review progress against objectives and targets, assess significant strategic developments and consider strategy reorientations. As a central component of the UNHCR Strategic Directions 2022-2026, the organization has identified eight thematic focus areas that require renewed attention and accelerated action to deliver tangible improvements to the lives of forcibly displaced and stateless populations. The SPAU team is responsible for developing global Strategic Plans that set out what UNHCR proposes to do differently at the country, regional and global levels over a 5-year period, to deliver tangible, measurable results for the people we seek to serve in each of the eight areas.

The position UNHCR is looking for an individual with strong planning, analytical and visual communications skills and a passion in the mission of the organization. The incumbent will work under the overall responsibility of a Senior Strategic Planning Officer, SPAU. The incumbent will support the team with the development and production of analytical and communication material related to UNHCR’s Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) Focus Area Strategic Plan, including coordinating with regional offices, consolidating off-line and on-line presentations and , ensuring that they are analytically sound, visually compelling, effective, and brand compliant. They will support the facilitation of consultations with UNHCR experts across the world on issues relating to AAP, and support with the planning and organizing of the SPAU team.

Duties and responsibilities • Produce strategic analysis on thematic issues, including desk reviews and analysis of consultations held with internal and external stakeholders, and summarize the findings for senior decision making • Support coordination of strategic analysis across 7 regional offices on issues relating to AAP • Support Theory of Change discussions and workstreams by producing visualizations, diagrams, and maps • Produce high-impact, visually compelling communications products including PowerPoint presentations • Support the team’s efforts related to organizing strategic planning processes, including organizing meetings, managing online consultation tools (eg. MentiMeter and Microsoft Forms) and producing meeting minutes and briefing notes • Support the broader SPAU team during meetings, consultations, and events, including with recording decisions and action points • Undertake any other tasks as required

Minimum qualifications required To be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria: • Be a recent graduate (having completed their graduate studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR. • Have strong English language skills; any other language is an asset • Experience of analytical analysis, co-ordination and developing communication and presentation materials with visuals. • Strong computer skills including an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including PowerPoint and Excel.

The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in-person in Geneva, Switzerland. Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
