The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, school feeding, nutrition, and food for assets creation through the provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers and safety nets.

This position is open to qualified Somali candidates, female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities

Effectively receive/dispatch commodities including transhipment (truck to truck) against official approved documentation (e.g. waybills and/or delivery notes) ensuring accuracy in the physical count of commodities including the quality in compliance with the established standards. Coordinate inland, overland, and local dispatches within the agreed timeline and report any exceptions to the supervisor. Prepare, verify, and sign off warehouse and transport documents, and maintain confidential files and accurate warehouse transaction records to ensure immediate reporting on commodity movements in line with the corporate requirements. Conduct daily warehouse closing reconciliation and accurate inventory checks supporting internal control systems in compliance with the warehouse management requirements. Perform daily inspections and prepare reports on the quantity and quality of the commodities received/dispatched and handled, detect promptly, and analyse reasons for stock discrepancies/damages, investigate the missing quantity and prepare warehouse loss reports recommending appropriate solutions, to enable informed decision-making. Manage Non-food items, issuance and receipt, inventory, and reporting of such items Implement appropriate measures to safeguard food and non-food commodities, to ensure quality control using standard preventive measures in line with WFP established procedures and authorization received from the supervisor. Monitor the condition of the warehouse and commodities and take appropriate actions, to support efficient warehouse space-planning and well-organized commodity storage following WFP warehouse standards. Support other areas of logistics operations including port operations when required by the supervisor. Provide guidance and on-the-job training to warehouse staff and contractors to contribute to their development and high performance. Any other task assigned by the supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary secondary training or certificate in the related functional field is desirable

Experience: Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible professional experience in Logistics Operations, storekeeping and warehouse management.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is a requirement.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Experience in monitoring various aspects of Logistics Operations
  • Experience in supporting warehouse management systems
  • Experience in supporting inventory management systems
  • Experience in data entry and extracting routine reports
  • Hands-on logistics experience in the UN or INGOs is desirable.
