Mexico City is one of the largest cities in the world with a population of 8.9 million people. Mexico City recorded a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of US $ 411 billion in 2011, making it one of the largest economically metropolitan areas in the world. The city generates the 15.8% of Mexico's GDP.

Mexico City is divided into 16 boroughs (demarcarciones territoriales or alcaldías, in Spanish), which are connected by different means of public transportation, such as the metro system (the largest in Latin America), regular buses and bus rapid transit (Metrobús). As a policy to reduce traffic jam, the city has been making infrastructure improvements to become a bike-friendly city. The annual average temperature varies from 12 to 16 ° C (54 to 61 ° F).

It is recommended for all visitors to Mexico to stay alert and take basic precautionary measures. It is also recommended to avoid night flights / very early morning flights as far as possible. For city transportation, visitors are recommended to only use taxis from authorized taxi ranks at the airport, throughout the city, or from hotels. Please avoid taxis on the streets; there is a high rate of express kidnappings and robberies. Due to the high incidents at ATMs, it is highly recommended to only use ATMs at banks or hotels.

Traveling outside cities after dark is not recommended. If it necessary to travel by roads, it is recommended to only use those with tolls. Public security forces are not exempt of corruption. Cell phone coverage outside of major cities is limited.
