You have:

  • Advanced University Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related field
  • At least 7 years relevant work experience in research, projects involving practice of statistical analysis and in preparing statistical data and metadata, and related international standards, for dissemination
  • A national of the Philippines or with a regular working permit in the Philippines

Organizational Setting For more than four decades, FAO has been working with the Government of the Philippines, civil society, community-based organizations and the private sector to address challenges in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector. Joint efforts have included increasing sustainability in agricultural production, promoting value-adding practices, improving post-harvest management, enhancing productivity and increasing the resilience of agriculture-based livelihoods to natural disasters, climatic hazards and armed conflict.

Reporting Lines The Statistician reports to the Programme Assistant/Normative Support Team Leader.

Technical Focus FAO Philippines is providing support to the Department of Agriculture through a project entitled Establishment of a central database of Agricultural Commodities (TCP/PHI/3809/C6). The overall objective of the project is the establishment and maintenance of a central database on information pertaining to agricultural commodities. This will support evidence-based planning and policy-making by the government, through the DA, to support the country’s food security objectives. Relatedly, the project will seek to analyze the existing data gathering and reporting methodologies and tools in place and support enhanced harmonization.

Tasks and responsibilities The Statistician will provide technical guidance in the establishment and maintenance of a central database on information pertaining to agricultural commodities and will carry out the following tasks: • Provide technical expertise in developing the design of the database in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture. This includes stocktaking of available data of key agricultural commodities. • Provide support in facilitating requirements for data and metadata sharing, as necessary. • Coordinate with the engaged Service Provider in the development of the database and metadata to ensure that the platform to be developed is suitable to the data and needs of the Department of Agriculture. • Work in close coordination with DA and the Service Provider in the processing of data and development of the database and metadata • Provide technical support in the conduct of pilot testing and feedback and training sessions. • Carry out other relevant duties within his/her technical competence as requested by the FAO Representative.

Minimum Requirements • Advanced University Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related field • At least 7 years relevant work experience in research, projects involving practice of statistical analysis and in preparing statistical data and metadata, and related international standards, for dissemination • A national of the Philippines or with a regular working permit in the Philippines.

Technical/Functional Skills • Strong analytical skills and excellent command of applied economic/statistical theories, and econometrics or other methods related to field of expertise • General knowledge and skills in the use of standard office software, such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point). • Language requirement: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English • Familiarity with FAO operational procedures is an advantage
