Duties and Responsibilities ECLAC is one of the implementing agencies of the EUROCLIMA Program. The activities implemented by ECLAC in this program are focused on improving the knowledge of decision makers about the problems and consequences of climate change, through analysis of public, fiscal and financing policies, use of economic instruments, generation of spaces for policy discussion, capacity building, among others.

The EUROCLIMA Program seeks to promote the link between science and politics for evidence-based decision-making, as well as offering transparent and timely information for decision-making and capacity building. In this context, ECLAC will carry out the work of integration of statistical and geospatial information (supported by the implementation of technological platforms and procedures), with which it intends to contribute to reducing the information and knowledge gaps in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean regarding climate change.

A consultant is required for specialized consulting services in Earth Observation Platforms.

Functions to be performed:

  • Analysis of the Earth Observation sources available to establish a potential regional inventory of spatial data sets from which statistical indicators can be generated on the selected topics (OP1.1 and OP 1.2)
  • Identification of the most appropriate platforms to obtain the products requested by the project. (OP1.1 and OP 1.2)
  • Investigate and document characteristics of the systematic collection and production of statistical and geospatial data (data origin, subscriptions, platform, bands, product, periodicity, formats, processing, among others) (OP1.1)
  • Identify and review the environmental data on the ECLAC data banks (OP1.2)
  • Carrying out proofs of concept to guarantee the correct generation of the requested products. (OP1.1)
  • Identification and documentation of the processes necessary to prepare the indicators and statistics requested by the project. (OP1.2)
  • Identification and documentation of the processes necessary for the creation of the geospatial data layers requested by the project. (OP1.1)
  • Review and documentation of ETL implementations for the generation of products and their integration
  • (OP1.1 and OP 1.2)

    Qualifications/special skills - Graduated in technological, environmental, or geospatial university careers, such as Geography, Geology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences, Territorial Studies The consultant should have at least 8 years of experience on:

¿ Professional with experience in Earth Observation and Remote Sensing ¿ Experience with Geospatial Information Technologies ¿ Experience in Natural Sciences and environmental studies

Languages - Nivel avanzado de español y nivel intermedio/técnico de inglés
