The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme; and
  • Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages: English, French, Spanish. Russian, Mandarin or Arabic. Additional language requirements may apply; and
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records

Purpose of the internship:

The Emergency section in Kinshasa is responsible for coordination and oversight of emergency programme in UNICEF DRC. It coordinates emergency preparedness and response including a rapid response programmes to displacement and cholera.

The internship is to provide support on reporting, research and analysis for emergency programme carried out by UNICEF.

Under the supervision of the Emergency Specialist in Kinshasa, the intern will

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing emergency related documents such as situation reports, donor reports, donor proposals, background notes and talking points
  • Assist in preparing the Humanitarian Action for Children 2022
  • Assist in context analysis to better inform humanitarian programming

Location: Kinshasa, D.R.Congo

Start date: 1 September 2021

Duration: four ( 4)months

Qualifications:

  • Minimum first-level university degree in international relations, political science and public administration.
  • Fluency in French and English is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Experience in research and analytical writing is required.
  • Experience in humanitarian assistance is an asset.
  • Flexibility and the ability to assist with a variety of task based on the needs of the section

In addition, please provide:

• Letter of verification from the college or university that you are currently enrolled in an undergraduate school and have completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree (you are 18 years old, this replaces the two-year bachelor’s completion requirement); or, Graduate Degree Program (i.e., Master’s, PhD). It should also state the expected graduation date. Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion.

• Copy of most recent official transcript showing excellent academic performance

• Copy of Identification Card (ID)

• One letter of signed recommendation on letterhead or from professional email address
