The Position:

UNFPA is hiring multiple Staff Counselors: to cover all of our six regions- Eastern and Southern Africa, West and Central Africa, East Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific and the Arab States. Each Staff Counselor will be paid via an agreed per diem based full working days. Each Staff Counselor will work remotely from their own home and needs to provide their own computer and internet access.

Job Purpose:

Working in collaboration with the wider Division of Human Resources, this consultant will provide services that promote the psychological health and well-being of employees and contribute to a healthy work environment.

You would be responsible for:

  • Provide Skype, Telephone, or face to face Psychosocial counseling for staff members and their dependents;
  • Conduct online psychosocial needs assessments and prioritize plans of actions for staff members assessed, initiate psychosocial response and initiate follow up activities;
  • Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) and trauma counseling to staff members who have undergone or experienced/witnessed or exposed to traumatic events;
  • Provide skype, online or telephone psychological counseling support to staff members and dependents affected by COVID- 19;
  • Provide bereavement and grief supportive counseling;
  • Carry out needs assessment, develop training material and offer contextually relevant psychosocial training to staff members;
  • Promote uptake of mental health services using different platforms and strategies;
  • Provide Psychoeducation to staff members in sessions and through written/audio broadcasts and mental wellness programs;
  • Initiate Psychosocial Support Groups as per needs assessment;
  • Mandated to use official reporting lines to report abuse of power, sexual exploitation or abuse, etc.;
  • Provide Missions' preparedness and post-missions' psychosocial debriefing to staff members;
  • Prepare COVID -19 pandemic related psychosocial information and training materials based on emerging psychosocial/mental health related issues like conflict management, empathy training etc;
  • Keep statistics and provide analytic reports periodically for management review and guidance;
  • Liaise with high-quality local and regional mental health resources via medical insurance provider/CIGNA that can be used for referrals or in times of crisis;
  • Coordinate services with UN-“family” counselors, particularly in the context of critical incident response, to deliver care.

Education:

An advanced degree (M.A/ M.Sc) in counseling or clinical psychology is required. Must be registered to practice in the home country and present a valid license for the duration of the contract. Health promotion related training will be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in either clinical or counseling psychology is required;
  • Proven experience in trauma counseling and crisis intervention is required;
  • Experience in providing online psychosocial support via teleconferencing modalities such as skype, zoom, google hangout or telephone is required;
  • Proven experience of working in a challenging multicultural setting is required;
  • Experience in the United Nations or other multilateral organization, working in the field, humanitarian and/or armed conflict situations.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Arabic. Working knowledge of French would be considered a significant advantage.
