Overview

Provide employee assistance and counselling services.

You have:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in clinical psychology or counselling psychology, or related area is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with five additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in staff clinical counselling, mental health, cross cultural communications, counselling, psychiatry, clinical psychology, clinical social work, and related areas is required.
  • Experience in developing policies and procedures related to staff well-being and mental health is desirable.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training sessions and briefings related to staff members' well-being and mental health is desirable.
  • Experience working in an international organization is desirable.
  • Additional training or certification in a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse; stress management, cross-cultural communication, and psychological assessment is desirable.
  • Fluency in French and English is required.
  • Knowledge of other languages is an asset.

Result of Service Provide support mission briefings and debriefings for assignments abroad to facilitate prompt and efficient reintegration. Provide substantive input, research, and assistance in delivery of training modules with respect to mental health and staff welfare and the management of personal and family issues.

Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities

The incumbent develops and delivers comprehensive employee assistance services and provides staff members and/or their family members with counselling services and assistance on matters of personal concern which affect and/or may affect the level of their performance, health and/or quality of life, Specifically, the incumbent will: Assist in the prevention, identification and resolution of problems associated with staff members, and their family members, impaired by personal concerns, including, but not limited to health, marital, family, financial, substance abuse, legal, emotional, stress or other personal issues which may adversely affect their job performance; facilitate interface with the various services and resources of the Organization and ensure that spouses and children of staff receive prompt professional attention in case of family emergencies; Provide expert consultation, psychological support and training in the identification and resolution of job-performance issues related to staff members' personal concern; provide counselling by assessing the nature and extent of the problems presented, exploring options available to resolve problems, and developing a course of action with the staff member/supervisor to resolve problems, with a view to promoting personal welfare and enhancing effectiveness and motivation. Provide a safe, confidential, respectful environment where staff members are able to address professional and personal problems; provide referrals for appropriate diagnosis, treatment and assistance; and support the formation of linkages between workplace and community resources that provide such services and maintain a referral list of professionals available in the community. Provide psychological support to staff referred by administration and staff representatives, Joint Medical Service, Ombudsman, and other bodies already available in-house dealing with welfare and mental health matters. Monitor trends and design and implement programme to address potential difficulties affecting staff performance. Facilitate informal resolution of conflicts, address harassment and racism issues under the existing policies addressing discrimination, harassment, and abuse of authority, work with staff members on the psychological aspects of harassment. Work with the Security and Safety Service before, during and following critical incidents.

The position is located in Kinshasa and the incumbent will report to the Chief Staff Counselor.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in French and English is required. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
