To increase its capacity to respond to the psychosocial and needs of its personnel and their families during and after the COVID19 pandemic, UNDP is looking for a Staff Counsellor- Duty of Care.

Supervision to be provided by Staff Counsellor Office of Human Resources.

• Provide psychological support to individual personnel working in different geographic locations in person or through tele-counselling services; deliver group sessions for offices and teams on issues of common concern • Develop and facilitate psychoeducational programs for families on a range of relevant topics including but not limited to parenting, mental health issues, adjustment to new countries etc; • Design and delivery of blended learning workshops for UNDP personnel in high-risk duty stations and their families; • Contribute to the design of policies and guidelines, as well as information / booklets to increase awareness on organizational policies and tools with the aim at increasing duty of care and family support; contribute to/develop promotional materials on key topics. • Regularly collating, updating and adding content specific family related material to the Wellness app • Develop a current global list of external providers who can provide a range of services for UNDP staff and their families including but not limited to options for mental health referrals, health care, child and adolescent mental health services, child care services etc; • Identify and liaise with high quality local and regional mental health resources that can be used for referrals or in times of crisis; • Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines, as well as written and visual materials to increase awareness regarding important themes and topics related to mental health and family health; • Perform a gap analysis of UNDP policies related to mental health, psychosocial wellbeing at work and family support and provide input for development of sound policies and practices. • Actively engage with management and staff with a view to identifying their concerns. • Prepare comprehensive reports, and plan and implement other staff counselling activities to ensure the provision of cohesive counselling services. • At the request of Country Offices, and in coordination with UNDSS/CISMU, provide crisis support and propose interventions to support UNDP personnel during emergencies; identify, address and follow up on critical incident stress cases among UNDP personnel and dependents in the country.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

mental health, counselling, social work or related mental health field is required; experience in working in a hardship location and/or providing counselling in field locations is an asset. Experience in working with families is required. Registration as a mental health professional in the country of origin is required. Additional certification in trauma intervention, substance abuse counselling, cross-cultural communication is an advantage; Preferably working knowledge of one other language (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian and Arabic)

The UN Volunteer will be based in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey where everything is available including education, health services and entertainment. There is a lively and large group of international community.

Istanbul is a highly developed modern city with excellent accommodation that includes single house, apartments, etc. The cost of living in Istanbul, comparing to some of the other capital cities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, is relatively high. Travel to and from Istanbul is easy as there are many daily flights connecting Istanbul with major cities in the world.

Istanbul is a security level 2 (low) duty station and considered a generally safe city, where normal use of common sense and acting responsibly takes one a long way.
