Result of Service The incumbent will provide expertise to the Speechwriting and Communication Team, assisting with the DG/ED’s communication activities.

Work Location Vienna

Expected duration 11 September to 8 November 2023

Duties and Responsibilities Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Speechwriter and Communications Officer and in close coordination with the Speechwriting and Communication Team (SCT), the Consultant will provide substantive and administrative support in the implementation of the office work plan assigned to the Consultant, in particular:

A. Drafts and produces a wide range of speeches, statements, publication forewords and other written communication products for the DG/ED, while seeking input from substantive staff, reviewing materials, and conducting research for use in such communications products. B. Prepares or contributes to preparation of a diverse range of public information products and supports the communication requirements of the Director-General/Executive Director, including during meetings and conferences; evaluates the results and impact of various communications activities. C. Takes part in liaising and coordinating with media representatives as relates to the DG/ED’s media engagements. D. Drafts correspondence as required.

Qualifications/special skills - Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, political science, international relations or similar field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. - A minimum of five years of professional experience working on communications or speechwriting is required. - Work experience in a multilingual environment is desirable. - Work experience with the United Nations system is desirable.

Languages - English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
